I have came across a news article on the BBC about a women from Gateshead who has heard sound for the first time for 39 years. So this got me to thinking how overwhelming a feeling this must be and I could create such an overwhelming feeling through a sound design.
I feel that if I was to make something to mirror this I would need to do a lot of research into how this women felt and the transition from not hearing to hearing, you could even make an art instillation to do with this so that people can get into the mindset of this and see what it actually feels like.

Location Sound Bible
A couple of weeks ago I got Ric Viers; The Location Sound Bible out of the library after being advised to do so, It has took me quite a bit of time to go through this book as I have to go back over chapters to try and get my head round some stuff. I plan to keep a hold of this book as I think I will find it useful for when I'm on location and I'm not 100% sure about something.
I had previously used a mixer in a sound lesson so I was still a bit unsure about the basics of how to use a mixer, this was something I found very useful in this book.
The mixer basics are found on Pages 188 - 208, I find it to be very concise and fairly easy to understand.

Sound Design Feedback
Here is a list of the feedback I received for the sound design project, I found all of it very useful and will take it into the major project so that I can create my next sound design to a high standard.
- Liked the background noise
- Set the mood and tone well / darkness, electronic, grainy type images
- Liked the snappiness of the rubber gloves and face mask
- Goo sound needed to be more slimy, too elastic
- The atmos needs doesn't change, needs EQ and automation
- Roll off the high and low frequencies with automation
- Drill not working, need actual drill foley
- Keyboard needs to be an older keyboard sound
- Create a crescendo towards the end (the trees) increase the volume, also take the low frequencies away with automation
- Some physicality (include the noise of the man)
- Ant needs a different tone and texture (pineapple or hair brush)
- Loop clicks need a tidier transition

Finished Sound Design
This is the finished sound design that I have done for PI, I believe that its consistent throughout, maintaining a dark mood from start to finish. This project has been a great way for me to experiment with channel EQ, manipulating a sound to make it sound like something else.

Sound Design
I wanted to upload a few clips of sounds that I have recorded and have used and some clips that I have not used but I've had way to many problems trying to do this.
So I plan to explain my process of recording the sounds and the ways I have manipulated the sounds using channel EQ.
For the background noise all I have done is produce a low frequency sound that I felt would create the atmosphere and space that I think would appropriately fit with the visuals.
Other various sounds such as the drill; I wanted to try something out, so I just took the sound of a hair-dryer all though a drill and a hair dryer sound a lot different I thought this would be an opportunity to distort and mess around with the sound and try and make it sound as much like a drill as possible.
With PI I felt there is quite a lot going on so I have been trying to cover as much of the sounds as possible especially like his movement, I felt that the best way to get this sound would be to leave my microphone recording and I just moved around my room so that I could get the movement sounds as close as possible.
I a sound that I recorded but didn't put in was a recording of me in a rage, this was to fit in for when the character in PI has a rage, but I felt that I just couldn't get it right so I just used sounds of me jumping on a bed.

Sound Editing
In this screenshot i am piecing together the sound, my plan is to now mix all the different sounds and get the levels right. I also plan to EQ it to change some of the specific sounds to make them fit.

Music
I have been thinking long and hard as to whether I should use music or not in my piece, personally I think some music could carry my sound quite well, but I also feel as though I would be putting music in there to cover over some sound design mistakes.
Here is another scene from Fight Club which I think music works fantastic. I think it works well because its the final scene and the song gives the overall film a whole meaning as well as this scene.
Sound Synths
I have compiled another list, this is a list of the different synths and sounds i want to use in Pro Tools.
Synths & Pads
Organ Pulser
Accenter Gater
Airy Pulsator
Dirt Monster
Psychedelic Monks
These are all very unusual sounds that I want to try out, I feel that some of them may work as the scene I am doing is very unusual and mysterious, this is something that comes across in these sounds.
Sound Recording
I have compiled a list of different sounds that I want to record for the scene out of a PI.
Sound List
Twisting metal
Penny
Typewriter
Chair
Rubber Gloves
Drill
Smashing up
Jumping on the bed in a rage
Trees blowing in the wind

PI
I have decided to get a MIDI Keyboard out to try some sounds out for my piece. I have been looking at a variety of different sounds. I think that with the setting of the clip I want to go for a Sci-Fi/ Electronic sound.
